2 Stars Nothing extraordinary
I was hoping for something more advanced. I’ve glanced at the book and it appears that there may be some useful tips, but much of this I’ve already figured out in my month of using LinkedIn. The book is extremely poorly written. The grammar is poor and it’s not interesting or intriguing to read. I’m thinking of returning this item.
5 Stars Very insightful book with an excellent strategy
This is a great book with lots of information for anyone. I thought that LinkedIn was only useful for people who were looking for a new job, but “How to REALLY Use LinkedIn” showed me that it is also a great tool for any professional. I also liked the strategy and the GAIN exercise a lot! The strategy and GAIN exercise helped me to understand how to benefit from using LinkedIn. Even if something will change in the future in the layout or some of the functionality I have now the fundamentals to have this website work for me.
5 Stars Great book - love the updates too!
This book REALLY helped me start using LinkedIn. How to build a good profile (use a decent picture!), how to build your network on LinkedIn, the importance of knowing your goal(s) and starting from there, what to do and not to do with invitations, etc…
And yes, the book is dated, as it’s all about a living website.
BUT: Jan just wrote like 20 pages of updates this January 2010 - all for free! With (again) great tips like using SlideShare to get high rankings on Google, or how to put a movie in your profile, even though that’s ‘not possible’…
He’s an expert, he knows what he’s talking about, and he abundantly shares his wisdom to help all of us.
REALLY recommended!

2 Stars Solid Book, but Now Dated After LinkedIn Changed the Layout
The book is for the beginner LinkedIn user. I found that many of the concepts were not fully explained as to “why”, but rather showed you a “how”. I agree agree with most of the items the author suggests be done on your LinkedIn account. My issue is that most people starting off their experience with LinkedIn don’t understand “why” you need to do specific task, thus, they tend to overlook the value and not complete the task.
Also, the book is written with the old look and feel format of LinkedIn. Many power users of LinkedIn have already been migrated to the new look and feel of the tool — and the rest of the LinkedIn population will soon follow — thus making this book dated and ineffective.
Solid read, but needs to be updated for the new changes within LinkedIn.
5 Stars Get LinkedIn Right The First Time!
I wish I had read “How to Really use LinkedIn” by Jan Vermeiren before I created my first LinkedIn profile and began marketing my professional brand on LinkedIn. Had I done so, I would have avoided some embarrassing mistakes and the rework required to fix them. I would have also realized greater benefits from professional online networking quicker and with less effort.
In this concise and readable book, Jan Vermeiren shows how to get LinkedIn right the first time. This book provides insight into how LinkedIn works and how to use it effectively. Specific chapters address using LinkedIn to reach key objectives such as seeking employees, seeking a job, and marketing a product or service. The hands-on approach in these chapters accelerates establishing a brand-focused profile and building a results-oriented professional network.
