5 Stars A complex subject demystified
As a career counselor in the Washington DC metropolitan area, I hear stories of frustration all the time from those who would be part of the federal workforce. The federal resumes (what’s that?), the KSAs (what are they?), the dead silence after you submit your application… does it ever work? Is it possible?

Taylor and Ruck have tackled the subject one step at a time, making it seem much more possible. It’s still daunting - always will be - but this book shows the reader that it can be done. After all, all those feds got their jobs somehow.

You read stories about how many jobs will be created by workforce retirement and how many have been added by stimulus funds. But how to find them? This book gives a number of clues, heavily focusing on the internet.

I think one of the best things the authors have done is sprinkle their book with definitions. Government-speak is like no other.

Try these: intermittent,7(a) lender programs, noncompetitive appointment.

Confused? You can get definitions in this book. And I didn’t even mention acronyms, all duly explained.

The list of websites, presumably up-to-date and waiting for your visit, will keep you clicking to unearth information and job possibilities. And you will definitely appreciate the sample resumes, both print and electronically formatted at the end of the book.

Congratulations to Karol Taylor and Janet Ruck for providing a low-cost resource book that no career center, library, or interested job applicant should be without.

5 Stars Guide to America’s Federal Jobs
As a career coach, I am impressed with the ease of readability and step-by-step process that the Guide to America’s Federal Jobs takes you through. The Federal Goverment job application process is unique and without a lot of guidance most will get lost. Guide to America’s Federal Jobs provides excellent guidance in Federal resume preparation, KSA’s and the entire application process. Another feature is the “up to date” agency websites specific to job searches. I’ve recommended this book to many of my clients.
