User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Good material - Hate the layout
I like the content in the book, but it is not organized well. The author jumps around so much I have a hard time looking up specific situations to get timely advice. I did try the breakfast smoothie, and it was great!

5 Stars Instant Interviews - a Variety of Information
This book has such a variety of useful information.

“people don’t change….you’re just using what you had all the time….Reprioritise your values…”

This is the quote that encaptured the essence of the book for me.

I believe people have both good and bad qualities. This book potentially helps to bring out the good qualities in oneself. We each have a different way of expressing ourselves and relating to others. Personality, culture and other factors mould us as individuals. There are many examples in ‘Instant Interviews’ which illustrates how to promote the good, positive attributes in ourselves and in others.

The language Jeff has used is informal which, on the whole, is a good characteristic. The slang used is a stumbling block for me as I have to think about what Jeff is actually saying. Taking away the hype and Americanisms in this book, there is first-class content. The adjectives I would like to use to describe this multi-depth book are:

Motivational

Informative

Confidence boosting

Relevant

Scenario packed

Vast array of examples.

In short, ‘Instant Interviews’ helps us understand how to bring out the positive characteristics of ourselves. It shows the best way we can use our own confident, positive personalities in a variety of work-related situations.

1 Stars Instant Interviews.
If the hiring process and candidates truly are this appaling in the USA then I am astonished. My suspicion is that its aimed at those looking for entry level unskilled positions. A useless book for anyone in Europe.

5 Stars Excellent book for interviewing success!
Mr. Allen has done a super job of laying the fact of interviewing on paper. I’ve used some of the techniques listed in the book prior to reading it, but after reading it and adopting a few more techinques I’ve been successful in landing “the perfect job”…. 1 Stars Are you kidding me?
I bought this book because it had 113 5 star reviews and no, not one, review lower than 5 stars. I should have known something was not right as that just doesn’t make sense to have 100% 5 star reviews in the open public rating system.

I have been an executive recruiter for the past 8 years, a successful one at that, and I regularly read books on the industry to keep up with trends and information. I bought this book based on the reviews and title. I then received the book and have never had my jaw drop so many times in my life.

Who is this guy? His writing is that of a 15 year old with slang and casual phrases that make pretty much no sense to me at times. Then, there are “how to” advice that includes heading to the steam room at the gym to “nail a mega-offeror”. I’m sorry, but what exactly does that mean Mr. Allen? Yes, I understand that you mean to say that you can network in the sauna, but following it up with “By the time we’d dry off, we’d be trading soggy business cards and carrying on like Bert and Ernie.” Wow.

The best this book has to offer is good solid humor. And perhaps the advice on eating non-processed food in the second chapter titled “Making and Taking the Instant Interview Magic Potion” where Mr. Allen plans out a diet for us while we are off drumming up interviews for ourselves. Again, wow.

I’d recommend the book “Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters 2.0: 1,001 Unconventional Tips, Tricks and Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job (Paperback)” if you’re looking for some real advice. A much more professional, realistic and effective book.
