User Ratings and Reviews

1 Stars Very basic; For first time resume writers only
I purchased this book to see examples of resumes for health and medical careers. In my opinion, these resumes are too lame to help anyone get a job.

Notably, the book contains worksheets for resume writing and sample resumes.

The worksheets are good only if you’ve never written a resume before. As an example, for example, the workbook for the Education section section suggests list the school, major, degree, and dates. Typically, people pick this up by looking at examples, rather than starting with a blank worksheet.

The resumes presented are very basic. Some simply list education, work experience, awards, etc. Others tend to list tasks. Many times, there isn’t a connection between the education and the job titles. Many omit the major in the education section. None are impressive.

Resumes of today need to tell employers about your accomplishments (not just list job titles and ideally not just list tasks performed), what you can do for them (not just what you are looking for from them), and use the terminology of the field (not overdoing it but to show be credible) and have key words (as they are likely heading for a database). As this book doesn’t meet the needs of the market, I do not recommend it.
