User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Logical and Thorough Blueprint for Landing a Government Job
After checking out several books aimed at guiding one through a targeted Federal Government job search, I came across How to Land a Top-Paying Federal Job: Your Complete Guide to Opportunities, Internships, Resumes and Cover Letters, Application Essays (KSAs), Interviews, Salaries, Promotions and More! by Lily Whiteman. I wish I had come across this first as it was by far the most thorough, helpful, practical and current out of the lot. It’s action oriented and is comprehensive in a very thoughtful way. You’re not wasting your time going through pages/chapters trying to fish out what is useful to you and the author does a good job of prodding you along to make your job search a success. This is a very crucial part of the job search. There aren’t just smatterings of links and resources, but logical outlines and paths to follow while searching for a government job. This book has changed the way I’ve approached my job search and has yielded results that I wasn’t experiencing before. Comes with a helpful CD. Highly recommended.

4 Stars Very Helpful
This book shows you how to look for jobs, where to look for jobs, the best way to apply, how to build a strong professional resume, how resumes are reviewed and more. It’s well written and put together in an easy to read/follow format. Definitely a powerful reference for anyone who wants to get hired or promoted in the federal system. As a federal employee, I’m positive this book will help me go to the next level.

5 Stars Worth Its Weight In Gold!
This is a phenominal book for anyone that is interested in working for the federal government! It is packed full of practical advice and great ideas! I highly recommend this to those that are already familiar with the federal application process or someone just beginning!

5 Stars Leveling the playing field for federal employment applicants
Federal internships, interim employment opportunities or career appointments offer many advantages over the private sector in areas such as job security, benefits, location and skill development. But obtaining federal employment is masked by adversities such as (1) finding the right position; (2) vacancy announcements that only open for applications a few days every so many years; and (3) presenting your credentials and KSA’s effectively throughout the application process in resumes, essays and interviews. This book removes the federal employment mask and turns the lights on for outsider applicants. The auther, Ms Whiteman, is the bi-monthly Federal Times career columnist and has extensive experience as a federal hiring manager and high level employee. Her insights and advice about each step of the federal hiring process levels the playing field for the uninformed federal employment applicant. The book is a must-buy.

5 Stars Great Resource
Lily Whiteman has written a comprehensive resource for landing a federal job. She provides a real insider’s perspective and covers topics that are hard to learn elsewhere except through direct experience. The book covers everything from how to find positions, to writing your federal resume, to filling out online applications, and how to ensure your application makes the top of the pile. She also has great advice for interviewing and for advancing your federal career.
